Humless is born…
In March 2008, under Northern California’s tallest trees, entrepreneur Glenn Jakins relaxed, camping with his family when the raucous, vibrating whine of a neighboring RV generator shattered the quiet of the redwood forest.
The racket carried on for hours as Jakins became increasingly irritated. Eventually it shook loose an idea: Jakins vowed to invent a silent, portable generator. This quiet pledge became the genesis of a whole new way of thinking about alternative home energy independence, backup power generators, solar generator power, and quiet portable generators.
As he sallied forth into this project, developing a silent generator, Jakins quickly realized he needed to look at green, clean energy solutions. He wanted more than a quiet portable generator, but an advanced battery backup power supply system. He sought a battery technology that served as a portable power pack without equal, one that could load up a charge quickly and store enough power to run lights, computers, cell phones or a refrigerator for several days. The lithium battery technology would have to be smaller and lighter than standard lead-acid batteries, as well as versatile and environmentally friendly.
It was on this quest that Advanced Lithium+ technology became the source for the new Humless power system.
After several failed attempts at building a solar power solution, Jakins recruited the help of Peter Ransom, a manufacturing engineering student at Brigham Young University, to see if he could help solve some vital issues. Ransom quickly found solutions to difficult challenges and in May 2010 he and Jakins went to China to look at mass production alternatives. They developed a joint U.S./China component sourcing and assembly process to tightly control quality, expedite delivery and provide exceptional service.
At the end of 2010, Humless stood ready to deliver its first product, the “Roadrunner”, a portable 10AH 12V battery with inverter and charging system. Roadrunner serves as battery backup power supply, a camping generator, a CPAP battery backup, providing solar generator power as just one of its possible recharge sources.
In February 2011 Humless launched the “Sentinel” power supply system and silent generator, which boasts a 50AH 12V LIFEPO4 battery component with pure sine wave inverter, battery management system and capacity to be expanded to four times its size with daisy chained add-on batteries under development.
Humless power systems quickly garnered accolades as Best of Show at the recent Self Reliance Expo in Salt Lake City—a mecca for emergency preparedness. A growing list of customers finds new ways daily to use Humless technology for a mobile world in uncertain times. Uses include: backup power, camping generator, emergency planning, secondary power, solar generator, CPAP battery, alternative power source, super quiet generator, solar portable power, emergency battery, “silence-on-the-set generator,” disaster relief, portable satellite access system, silent public address system, mountain climbing communications, NASA safe space shuttle photo shoot, airport emergency communications, humanitarian (NGO) off-grid power, to name a few.
