A team from the University of Texas at Austin develops a full solid state battery cell. The team was lead by 94-year-old John Goodenough, one of the inventors of the original lithium battery.

After many years of lithium batteries dominating the market, a newer cleaner and less expensive option in on the way. The newly developed solid state design will hold more energy in a smaller space. The composition provides for a safer battery that will last longer and cost less than today technology. A much simpler fabrication process will drive down the cost of the batteries to make this new tech the future of energy storage.

These long range, low cost, high volume batteries open up the market for cost effective electric vehicles and enormous storage options for solar and wind energy.
